Stefan Jackiw plays Tchaikovsky's Violin Concert

Violinist Josef Kotek witnessed Tchaikovsky's marriage. A few months later he had a completely different role. Tchaikovsky had fled the disastrous union, and Kotek was the consolation. In a holiday home they worked together on Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto. On this night, Stefan Jackiw is a soloist with the Residentie Orkest in this very lyrical work.

Mussorgsky

After Tchaikovsky's extremely Russian final part of the violin concert, his compatriot Mussorgsky's famous, literally and figuratively picturesque work is heard. Paintings from an exhibition are a musical walk along lovely and frightening portraits. Conductor Nicholas Collon, chief conductor of the Residence Orchestra, opens this colourful programme with Ravel. Spanish rhythms and musical jokes are heard in Alborada del Gracioso, the fool's morning song.
