Historic Anniversary Gala
イベント情報
The Estonian National Opera celebrates its 100th anniversary!
The historic opening gala of the festival will take us one‐hundred years back in time – the guests will arrive in horsecarts, ladies wear lace gloves, gentlemen top hats and Hamlet recites his monologue on the stage.
The rising of the theatre house from the depths of the stage will provide a uniquely beautiful spectacle, taking us through a century of beauty and struggle. Singing will alternate with dance, bringing to stage the founders of professional theatre Paul Pinna and Theodor Altermann, among others. Weitzenberg’s statues, Dusk and Dawn, will spring to life, just like in the fairy tale, and find their home in the White Hall. The gala will end with a vision of a dreamy opera house.
The program features excerpts from Gustav Suits’ “Prologue”, written for the opening of the house, Eino Tamberg’s “Opening Fanfares”, fragments from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”, a ballet scene from “The Dream in the Sculptor’s Workshop”, soldiers’ chorus from Evald Aav’s “Vikerlased”, scenes from Eduard Tubin’s ballet “The Goblin” and Gustav Ernesaks’ opera “The Coast of Storms”, Verdi’s “Aida”, and Tchaikovsky’s ballet “Swan Lake”.
The gala in the theatre hall is followed by a banquet in the Estonia Concert Hall in good and merry company with many surprises.
