フランコ・ゼフィレッリによるヴェルディの『アイーダ』の象徴的な舞台が、再びヴェローナ・アリーナに登場する壮観を堪能せよ。_
ローマ時代の円形競技場が古代エジプトに現代的な背景を提供し、ヴェルディの叙情的かつ劇的な壮大な楽譜が悲劇的な結末へと奏でられる。
『アイーダ』はジュゼッペ・ヴェルディ作曲、アントニオ・ギスランツォーニ台本による4幕のオペラである。
第一幕：エジプトの大祭司ラムフィスは、エチオピアとの戦争が避けられないとラダメスに告げる。ラダメスはエジプト軍の指揮官に選ばれることを願い、勝利と、密かに恋するエチオピアの奴隷アイダの双方を夢見る。ラダメスの愛に応えるアイダは、エジプトの捕虜となった身ながら、その正体を隠しているエチオピア王アモナスロの娘である。
ファラオの娘アムネリスが登場。彼女もラダメスを愛しているが、アイダがライバルとなることを恐れている。エチオピア軍がテーベに侵攻中との報せを受け、ファラオが大祭司と宮廷一同を伴って入場。王は宣戦を布告し、ラダメスを軍司令官に任命する。
一人残されたアイダは、父への愛、祖国への忠誠、そしてラダメスへの想いの間で葛藤する。
ラダメスが総司令官に任命される。エジプト人たちは勝利と戦士たちの守護を祈る。
第2幕：ラダメスの勝利が祝われるが、アムネリスはラダメスの愛情を疑い、アイダが彼に恋していると察する。アイダが部屋に入ると、アムネリスは嘘をつき、ラダメスが戦死したと告げる。 衝撃と悲嘆に暮れるアイーダはラダメスへの愛を告白する。アムネリスは激怒し、アイーダへの復讐を誓う。
ラダメスが帰還し、軍隊は凱旋して都に入城する。ファラオはラダメスの望みを何でも叶えると宣言する。 鎖でつながれたエチオピアの捕虜たちが舞台に連行される。その中にはアモナスロ王もいた。アモナスロはエジプト人に対し、エチオピア王が戦死したと宣言する。捕虜たちはエジプト王に慈悲を乞うが、ラムフィスとエジプトの祭司たちは捕虜の処刑を要求する。王が約束した報酬を主張し、ラダメスは捕虜たちの慈悲を嘆願する。 王はラダメスの願いを認め、ラダメスを王位継承者にしアムネリスと結婚させると宣言する。エチオピアが敗北の復讐をしないよう、アイーダとアモナスロは人質として留まる。
第3幕：アムネリスとラダメスの結婚式前夜、アイーダはイシス神殿の外でラダメスを待つ。 アモナスロが現れ、エジプト軍の所在を突き止めるようアイダに命じる。アイダは渋々承諾する。
アモナスロは岩陰に隠れ、アイダとラダメスの会話を盗み聞く。ラダメスはアイダと結婚すると誓い、アイダは共に逃げるよう説得する。ラダメスは安全な逃走ルートを提案し、自軍の所在を明かしてしまう。アモナスロが姿を現し正体を明かす。 ラダメスは知らず知らずのうちに敵に重大な軍事機密を漏らしてしまったことに気づく。
アムネリスとラムフィスは神殿を出て、帝国の衛兵を呼び寄せる。アモナスロは短剣を抜くが、ラダメスがそれを制する。 アモナスロにアイダと共に逃げるよう命じたラダメスは、自ら帝国の衛兵に身を委ね、裏切り者として逮捕される。
第4幕：アムネリスは衛兵にラダメスを連れてくるよう命じ、彼に告発を否定するよう求めるが、彼は拒否する。ラムフィスが罪状を読み上げ、ラダメスは自己弁護を拒み、死刑を宣告される。アムネリスはラダメスの無実を主張し、慈悲を請うが、彼は生き埋めにされる判決を受ける。
暗闇の地下室に閉じ込められたラダメスは物音を聞き、アイーダが自らを隠して共に死ぬために潜んでいたことに気づく。二人は悲惨な運命を受け入れ、地上と悲しみに別れを告げる。地下室の上ではアムネリスがイシス女神に祈りを捧げながら涙を流す。舞台裏で司祭たちが神フタに祈りを捧げる中、恋人たちは互いの腕の中で息を引き取る。

初めてアレーナで野外オペラを鑑賞しましたが、オーケストラの演奏が始まった途端、音と歌声が響き渡り、大変感動しました。このような野外オペラは初めてだったので、ものすごい臨場感に圧倒され、時間もあっという間に過ぎていきました。ポルトローナで席も良くて、オペラグラスも不要でした。本当に夢のような時間でした。

Eine wunderbare Inszenierung. Sehr schöne Stimmen, besonders Amneris und Aida. Den Radames empfand ich als etwas schwächer. Die Gestaltung duchr das Orchester war hervorragend, großes Lob an den Dirigenten. Mein Platz war gut. Wenngleich die Plätze an den Seiten akustisch besser sind. Dabei ist es negativ, dass man nicht direkt die gewünschten Plätze wählen kann, sondern nur die Kategorie.

Es war ein tolles Erlebnis…nur wäre es besser beim Ticket bestellen darauf hinzuweisen,dass man sich bei dieser Kategorie nicht anlehnen kann,was in unserem Alter schon eine Herausforderung war. Auch das keine Essen mitgebracht werden durfte war nirgendwo zu lesen…was schwierig war,wenn mann einen Tagesausflug nach Verona macht.

This was a fantastic event and worth every Cent. The production was amazing, the sets brilliant and the organisation first class with easy entry and exit from the Arena. It was hard to believe that four hours could slip past so quickly. Well done.
