「椿姫」は、父ジョルジョ・ジェルモンの意に反して、若い貴族アルフレード・ジェルモンと恋に落ちる宮廷女官の物語。この物語は、ニコール・キッドマン主演の映画『ムーラン・ルージュ』や、リチャード・ギアとジュリア・ロバーツ主演の映画『プリティ・ウーマン』の原作にもなっている。オペラはフィレンツェ歌劇団によって上演され、各幕は英語で解説される。
