The Duo Tal & Groethuysen (piano) presents Bach's Goldberg Variations in Graz.
In 1741, a piano cycle by Johann Sebastian Bach was published in Nuremberg under the title "Clavier Übung bestehend in einer ARIA mit verschiedenen Veraenderungen vors Clavicimbal mit 2 Manualen" (Keyboard exercise, consisting of an ARIA with diverse variations for harpsichord with two manuals). It would become legendary, however, under the name "Goldberg Variations". The piece, which joins the lightness of two popular melodies in a quodlibet with the heaviness of strict canons, is a unique musical monument that has undergone countless interpretations and revisions.
Tal & Groethuysen, honouring styriarte once more with their presence, will perform the variations revised by Joseph Rheinberger in 1880 and Max Reger in 1913, an arrangement which has become a legend in its own right…
