Edita Gruberová : Lucrezia Borgia

Lo spettacolo

Almost exactly two years after Edita Gruberová appeared at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall – also with the Slovak Philharmonic – in the title role of Bellini's Norma, the Hungarian audience is invited to witness what promises to be yet another outstanding performance.

Often referred to as the Queen of Coloratura, Gruberová is not only unusual in her longevity – her career now spans 40 years – but also in her recent conquest and popularisation of music not usually found in the global concert repertoire.

First performed at Milan's La Scala in 1833, Lucrezia Borgia is loosely based on the story of the famous Renaissance‐era femme fatale. The libretto was written by Felice Romani based on the Victor Hugo stage play. The role demands an almost constant presence on stage from the lead so it is little wonder that few performers are willing to take on this role in concert performance.

Experience one of the great voices of our time, performing in the Palace of Arts in Budapest.
