Look at Carl Maria von Weber's 'Freischütz' from a new angle at Oper Leipzig: Director Christian von Götz and set designer Dieter Richter reveal the fear and superstitions of a world in which deity and the devil play a vital role.
Weber's opera tells an eerie story about fear of failure, societal norms, and the individual's right to pursue happiness. The young forester Max knows that his fortune in life depends on his ability as a marksman. In order to pass the test he will have to strike a deal with the devil.
