Metropolis, Organ Tour: Budapest Spring Festival

Lo spettacolo

Composer and pianist Stephan von Bothmer (b. 1971) has earned considerable popularity in Germany with piano accompaniments for silent films, and has been responsible for a veritable renaissance of the genre. At the Budapest Spring Festival he will perform the accompaniment he wrote for an iconic piece of film history, Fritz Lang’s Metropolis (1927), playing the grand organ of the Palace of Arts.

Over the past few years, a wide range of classic films have been presented at the StummfilmKonzerte (Silent Film Concerts) of Kino Babylon, Berlin, with music composed by Bothmer and performed by him on the piano, the cinema organ or the film music ensemble he founded. In 2007, it was with his compositions and performance that 21 films by Ernst Lubitsch were presented at a 30‐hour silent film marathon.

Organized jointly with the Palace of Arts.
