Chiesa di Sant'Efrem
Situata in un angolo appartato dello storico quinto arrondissement di Parigi, noto anche come Quartiere Latino, questa piccola e pittoresca chiesa è davvero un gioiello nascosto. Costruita nel 1733 in vero stile corinzio, la chiesa fu utilizzata da diversi ordini religiosi fino alla fine del XIX secolo, quando divenne un centro per i movimenti sociali cattolici fondati da Robert e Albert de Mun. L'interno è decorato in stile classico con un'impressionante collezione di dipinti. La chiesa di Saint-Ephrem è un luogo molto apprezzato per i concerti di musica classica, poiché la sua atmosfera accogliente e intima e la sua ottima acustica attraggono sia la gente del posto che i turisti.
Johann Sebastian Bach
Il nome Bach e la parola musicista erano da tempo sinonimi in Germania, dato che il mondo aveva conosciuto 56 musicisti di questa famiglia. Ma fu Johann Sebastian Bach, geniale compositore e virtuoso organista, a dare lustro al nome della sua famiglia. Nacque il 31 marzo 1685 a Eisenach, una piccola città della Turingia. All'età di 10 anni rimase orfano e fu cresciuto dal fratello maggiore Johann Christoph, organista in una città vicina. Fu proprio suo fratello a insegnare musica al giovane Johann Sebastian. In seguito si trasferì a Luneburgo, dove frequentò una scuola ecclesiastica e all'età di 17 anni aveva già imparato a suonare il violino, la viola, il pianoforte e l'organo. Bach era anche un corista e, dopo il cambiamento di voce, divenne assistente cantore. Nel 1703 Bach fu assunto come musicista di corte nella cappella del duca Johann Ernst III. Qui si guadagnò una reputazione così buona che in seguito fu invitato ad Arnstadt per diventare organista nella Chiesa Nuova, dove compose le sue migliori opere per organo. Nel 1723 si trasferì a Lipsia per diventare cantore nella chiesa di San Tommaso, dove rimase fino alla sua morte per ictus nel 1750. Nell'anno della sua morte subì un intervento chirurgico agli occhi che non ebbe esito positivo e che lo portò alla perdita della vista. Durante quel periodo difficile, la sua seconda moglie Anna Magdalena lo aiutò a scrivere le sue ultime composizioni musicali. L'eredità artistica di Bach è vasta. Compose brani di tutti i generi dell'epoca: oratori, cantate, messe, mottetti, musica per organo, pianoforte e violino.

Lovely atmospheric venue with a good acoustic, but above all a superb performance from an extremely talented young cellist who performed the programme of three of Bach’s cello suites faultlessly from memory. I travel to Paris a couple times every year, and *ALWAYS* make sure I catch concerts at St.Ephrem. The concerts are always *perfect* and the music feeds the soul after a day of museums and touristing… Can't recommend these concerts highly enough.

The performance was breathtaking. Timothée was astounding, the acoustics and the candlelight inside the church made the music that much more enchanting‐ I could feel the cello from the top of my head to the tips of my toes. It was an electric experience.

薄暗くなった教会祭壇に蝋燭の灯りがともされ、演奏開始。チェロ独奏、自らの指は全くみることなく難解な曲を何曲も演奏で神々しかった。教会が宿泊先の近くでよかったです。
