Un programma che racchiude le influenze contrastanti del dopoguerra: Stati Uniti e Unione Sovietica. Due visioni del mondo e due espressioni distinte sono vividamente catturate nella musica di Shostakovich, in particolare nella sua Quinta Sinfonia – una risposta alla disapprovazione del regime di Stalin nei confronti della sua Lady Macbeth del distretto di Mtsensk – e nelle opere di Bernstein e Barber, che hanno navigato le loro identità artistiche nell'America maccartista. Sotto la direzione del direttore musicale Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, il programma si apre con l'Ouverture di Candide di Bernstein e vede Anne Akiko Meyers come solista nel Concerto per violino e orchestra op. 14 di Barber.

Orchestra: Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi

Known colloquially as 'La Verdi', Milan's famed symphony orchestra was formed in the early 90s to supplement the city's already‐generous cultural offering. Making its home in Milan's Auditorio, La Verdi features among Europe's most respected and admired symphonic ensembles. Its first Musical Director, Ricardo Chailly, now holds the title of Conductor Laureate, while the Austrian conductor, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, a fast‐rising star in the orchestral firmament took over the role of Musical Director in 2024, following in the footsteps of several major names in the classical world. La Verdi welcomes a starry roster of soloists and guest conductors over the course of an extensive and varied annual season, and regularly features as guests of honour at important state occasions and international concert engagements.
