At the age of 18, pianist Andrei Gavrilov won the first prize of the 1974 International Tchaikovsky Competition. In the same year, he made his international debut at the Salzburg Festival, substituting Sviatoslav Richter. Since then, he has received the highest critical acclaim for his performances around the world.
