À la fin du XVIIIe siècle, lorsqu'on parlait du "grand Bach", ce n'était souvent pas en référence au célèbre Johann Sebastian, mais plutôt à son fils Carl Philipp Emanuel. D'ailleurs, Mozart lui‐même a dirigé l'oratorio de CPE, intitulé Die Auferstehung und Himmelfahrt Jesu !
