Gershwin & Mahler: Prague Symphony Orchestra

Hear the world premiere of a new piece based on themes from Porgy & Bess.

Gershwin's music has been arranged by Jaroslav Jakubovič, who also takes the solo saxophone part in his new piece Sarah & Abraham: Concerto for Saxophone, Piano and Orchestra, which also receives its world premiere at this concert.

This is not the first time that the Prague Symphony has collaborated with a saxophone‐player: when Vaclav Smetáček met Czech jazz legend Charles Krautgartner, the result was a famous recording of Glazunov's saxophone concerto.

Conductor Elli Jaffe pairs these two with Mahler's first symphony, nicknamed "Titan".
