Heinrich Schütz, the 'Sagittarius' as his contemporaries called him, is probably the greatest German genius before Bach. This concert offers the quintessence of his art: incomparable harmonic science and melodic beauty, and, above all, a brilliant introduction to texts inherited from Monteverdi. The Sacred choral music display the impressive solemnity of polychorality from the Gabrieli in Venice, while the the Small concerts of sacred music illuminate with an intimate and modest light, deeply moving. Joël Suhubiette knows on his fingertips a master whom he venerates: under his direction, the Ensemble Jacques Moderne will reach upsetting heights.
