演出简介
Having made his name primarily with his madrigal books, which represent a fundamental stylistic turning point between the 16th and 17th centuries, and his operas - the first masterpieces in the genre - Monteverdi ventured into sacred music.
Unquestionably, his greatest achievement in this field was the Vespers of the Blessed Virgin, written in Mantua and published in 1710 with a view to attracting the attention of the ecclesiastical authorities in Rome and in particular of Pope Paul V, to whom the work is dedicated. Monteverdi wished to leave his position in Mantua for more promising horizons and to obtain a scholarship for his elder son, Francesco. Three years after its publication he obtained the much-coveted post of chapelmaster at St Mark's in Venice - but failed to secure anything for his son.
Philippe Pierlot conductor - Céline Scheen soprano - Adriana Fernandez contralto - Damien Guillon alto - Ricercar Consort
