An outstanding vocal line-up, featuring Mojca Erdmann, Ian Bostridge, Gerald Finley and the Arnold Schoenberg Choir, promise an evening of festive glory under the direction of Andrés Orozco-Estrada.
     
The choir’s words «Und es ward Licht» announce the beginning of Creation, so masterly set to music by Joseph Haydn. Before the great oratorio, a fanfare by 2012’s composer in residence James MacMillan will sound at the opening of the Music Festival. Both works translate spiritual content into music.

There’s a special feeling in the air when you step through the gates of Grafenegg to plunge into the open atmosphere of this Music Festival. Here is a fascinating combination of past and future, tangible in the contrast between the old castle and the modern open-air stage, Wolkenturm. On mild summer evenings, performances are in the open; in poor weather, the Auditorium opens its doors.

Ian Bostridge was a post-doctoral fellow in history at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, before embarking on a full-time career as a singer. His international recital career includes the world’s major concert halls and the Salzburg, Edinburgh, Munich, Vienna, Aldeburgh and Schubertiade Festivals. In 1999 he premiered a song-cycle written for him by Hans Werner Henze. In 2003/04 he held artistic residencies at the Vienna Konzerthaus and the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, in 2004/2005 he shared a Carte-Blanche series with Thomas Quasthoff at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and in 2005/2006 he had his own Perspectives series at Carnegie Hall.

Andrés Orozco-Estrada 1977出生于哥伦比亚。五岁时开始学习小提琴。 15岁时指挥他的高中乐团。 1992年开始专业学习指挥。 1997年到2003年就读于维也纳音乐学院，师从Uros Lajovic。
