Magic Toy Shop & Rite of Mountains

The Shanghai Symphony Orchestra performs an exciting programme, with Respighi's ballet music for "Magic Toy Shop" ("La boutique fatasque") and Wenjing Guo's "The Rite of Mountains", a percussion concerto.

The 2008 Sichuan earthquake was devastating, but the natives never forgot their innate optimism. Perhaps this is why Wenjing Guo, more or less a Sichuan native, includes the Sichuang folk song “The sun comes out and I’m happy” in the finale of  the percussion concerto, "The Rite of Mountains", written to commemorate the disaster.
