The Ostrobothnians

О событии

The Finnish National Opera performs Leevi Madetoja's rugged tragedy "The Ostrobothnians", a work that encompasses young love, comedy, and old fighting songs.

On the plains of Ostrobothnia, the dream of freedom is strong, and Jussi — baselessly accused — refuses to bow to the whip. Struck down by the Sheriff's bullet he nevertheless breaks his chains and dies free like the hawk in the sky. The world has changed since the time of Russian oppression when the play was written, but the story of love, freedom and people risking their lives in rising up against injustice has a universal appeal.
