'Peace to the cottages! War on the palaces!' – with this 1834 war cry, Georg Büchner protested the era of princely rule, calling for it to come to an end. At the same time, young pianists used music to herald the pre‐March era: the German Robert Schumann declared war on the 'Philistines' with the dances of the League of David; the Pole, Frédéric Chopin wrote études about the suffering of his people. In Graz, the struggle for the welfare of the people is once more delivered on keys and in words by the Russian pianist Alexander Malnikow and the great German actor Christoph Bantzer.
