The Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse was founded in the beginning of the 19th century for opera performances. After 1945 under the direction of André Cluytens and Georges Prêtre it became a synphony orchestra. The assumption by Michel Plasson in 1968 was an important Stepp in the orchestras history. Under his guidance the nummber of musicans was significant increased. In 1980 the french minister of culture confered the title of a national orchestra to Michel Plasson. The Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse became numerous awards: the Prix de l´Académie Charles Cros, the Prix de l´Académie du Disque Français, the Prix de l´Académie du Disque Lyrique, the Prix du Président de la République de l´Académie Charles Cros, the belgischen Grand Prix Caecilia, the Grand Prix Mondial des International Record Critics Award and many Victoires de la Musique.
