Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio, Organ Tour: Budapest Spring Festival
О событии
Often called “a legend” and “a living musical icon,” Dr. Lonnie Smith has been playing the jazz organ for 50 years. There is no doubt: he is a fixed star in the jazz universe, and his playing represents a vibrant soul that is never at rest. Enjoy an unfogettable performance with his trio at the Festival Theatre in Budapest.
A guru of the Hammond organ, he has appeared on more than 70 records, and is still an indefatigable presence in on the concert circuit. Jazz Times magazine describesd him as “a riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a turban!” Thanks to his mother, the child, who was born Buffalo, NY, was immersed in gospel, blues and jazz early on. He sang in various choirs in his teens, and learned to play a range of instruments, including the trumpet. He started to play the organ in the 1950s, and was soon noted by George Benson, who enlisted him for his quartet. When the band relocated to New York City, the local scene was immediately enthusiastic about Smith, who soon released his own first album.
Organized jointly with the Palace of Arts.
