The Israeli conductor Yoel Levi, once an assistant to Lorin Maazel and now with a stellar reputation of his own, leads the Orchestre National d'Île‐de‐France in the grandest of Bruckner's symphonies — the Eighth. With its references to Beethoven's Fifth symphony, and vast orchestral forces, the Eighth creates an almost mystical suspension of time itself.
