Asia and Europe: Edo de Waart & Radio Philharmonic Orchestra

О событии

In their program "East and West" the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Edo de Waart will be joined by Sheng‐player Wu Wei for Finnish composer Jukka Tiensuu's solo concert "Hehkuu" (Finnish for "glow"). The piece promises sparkling fireworks and exotic sounds from the Sheng.

Alexander Borodin also drew inspiration from the East when he wrote his symphonic poem "In the Steppes of Central Asia". In 1907 Serge Rachmaninov sought refuge westward when he composed his Symphony No. 2 in Dresden — a work which finally brought him international recognition as a symphonic composer.
