Andreas Staier, Freiburger Barockorchester: Bach & sons
О событии
In the Bach family, there is the father, but also the sons: this concert pays homage to them!
In the very numerous Bach family, music was transmitted from father to son almost as a vocation. It is even quite possible, as certain linguistic studies have shown, that the very name of the clan, Bach und Söhne GmbH – one could say the brothers, uncles, cousins and their possible combinations through marriages monopolized the entire musical job sector in Thuringia – may derive from a term that in Eastern European dialects designated itinerant musicians in general. Not all of the 10 children (out of 20 in all) who escaped the high infant mortality rate of the period became musicians, but four, in the years following the death of Johann Sebastian, would go on to all but eclipse the renown of the father: Wilhelm Friedemann, Carl Philipp Emmanuel, Johann Christoph and Johann Christian.
