Vicenzo Bellini's opera I Puritani will be performed under the musical direction of Karel Mark Chichón at Madrid's Teatro Real. Bellini received an invitation from Naples to write a new opera, and the result was the second version of I Puritani. Unfortunately, it could not be performed at the premiere, because the new score reached Naples after the due date. The composition contains startling developments in instrumentation and harmony. The melodic line shows a wide range of stylistic hues and expressive modulations. With I Puritani, Bellini began a journey that Verdi would then continue.
