Born in New Orleans in 1961, Wynton Marsalis founded the Jazz at Lincoln Center program in 1987. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra is highly regarded as one of the best big bands in the world today and continues its 25th anniversary celebration with a special performance of Blood On The Fields, Wynton Marsalis’ Pulitzer prize‐winning jazz oratorio. Mr. Marsalis is a multi‐Grammy award winner who has been lauded for his work both in jazz and classical music. His impact outside the United States has been significant as well and he has received numerous additional distinctions worldwide. The performance of Wynton Marsalis & Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will be a highlight of the Prague Proms 2013 jazz events.
Wynton Marsalis is a prolific and inventive composer. With hundreds of jazz compositions, ballet and modern‐dance scores, and even classical music scores, he belongs among the most successful and celebrated musicians today. He last appeared in Prague in 2000 for the European premiere of his 'All Rise' oratorio.
