David Tuhmanov’s contemporary opera "Tsarina" will be presented at the Birgitta Festival.
David Tukhmanov (born in 1940) is one of the most famous Russian song‐writers. In 1970s, he wrote a number of pop songs which became known all over the Soviet Union. Famous pop singers like Iosif Kobzon, Sofia Rotaru and Valery Leontiev have performed his songs. His only opera so far “Tsarina” was completed in 2005 and is based on the life of Russian empress Catherine the Great.
The Birgitta Festival of the Tallinn Philharmonic Society combines the dark charm of a medieval convent in Tallinn, Estonia with the latest in modern musical theatre in all its variety and richness.
