Played rarely in Europe, Fantasia — the most joyful of Tchaikovski's works — requires a lively and agile pianist like Viktoria Postinkova who, under the direction of her husband, the Russian conductor Guennadi Rozhdestvensky, gives the piece wings.

Rozhdestvensky also directs Shostakovich's Symphony No. 4,  a piece that during the cold war had been buried beneath the weight of cold war politics.
