Norma: Vincenzo Bellini

Sobre o Evento

Allow your primitive side to flourish alongside your more sophisticated self in Bellini's perfect blend of paganism and bel canto. Maria Agresta embodies the 'Casta Diva' of the title role in a production by Stéphane Braunschweig, under the baton of Riccardo Frizza.

Among the most difficult roles in the soprano repertoire, Norma is a tour de force, requiring a singer equally capable of both power and delicacy, and whose acting abilities are on a par with her vocal technique in the role of priestess and mother, betrayed lover, and spiritual leader of her people. The roles of Adalgisa and Pollione are similarly demanding, and sung here by artists of the requisite stature; Sonia Ganassi and Marco Berti.

Composed at the height of Bellini's powers, Norma revolutionized the traditional form of Italian opera, foreshadowing the great romantic dramas to come. Braunschweig is a true man of the theatre, whose experience with the great panoramas of Verdi and Wagner provides him with the keys to unlock the intimacy of a fateful love‐triangle, combined with ecstatic music and large‐scale drama.

Sung in Italian, with French surtitles
