Kaija Saariaho: Maa Ballet, Cité de la Musique
Sobre o Evento
Whether she turns to chamber music, the orchestra, or the opera, Kaija Saariaho couples delicate gestures with broad, open forms. This concert series is a window which opens to reveal some of her secret gardens.
Maa is a Finnish word meaning 'earth', 'country', 'land', as well as 'continent' and 'world'. It is also the title of Carolyn Carlson and Kaija Saariaho's ballet, which was premiered in Helsinki in 1991. The Cité de la musique now offers the French premiere of a new choreography by Luca Veggetti, first performed at Columbia University in 2010 in coproduction with the Guggenheim Museum.
