Golden Brahms: Munich Philharmonic & Christian Tetzlaff

Sobre o Evento

The Munich Philharmonic and the violinist Christian Tetzlaff perform "Golden Brahms" under the baton of Andris Nelsons at the Cankarjev Dom in this season.

Since its foundation in 1893, the Munich Philharmonic (Die Münchner Philharmoniker) has left an indelible imprint on Munich’s cultural life under the leadership of renowned conductors. The orchestra’s illustrious conductors have guaranteed both a high technical standard of performance and enthusiastic support of contemporary artistry. Right from the outset, their artistic concept included the effort to structure programmes and prices to allow access to the concerts by all levels of society. The orchestra is renowned for its legendary Bruckner tradition, which has continued unbroken to the present day, and its innovative programming. Already a hundred years ago, Felix Weingartner, who directed the orchestra from 1898 to 1905, enhanced and solidified its international reputation with a number of tours. In 2004, the Munich Philharmonic named Zubin Mehta the first “Honorary Conductor” in the history of the orchestra, and as of the 2012/2103 season, Lorin Maazel will assume the post of Music Director of the Munich Philharmonic for a three‐year period.

One of the most sought‐after young conductors on the international scene today, Andris Nelsons has been Music Director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra since 2008 enjoying a critically acclaimed first few seasons. With CBSO he is undertaking major tours worldwide, including regular appearances at diverse summer festivals, and releasing award‐winning recordings. He has collaborated with some of the most prominent symphony and opera orchestras (Berliner Philharmoniker, Wiener Philharmoniker, Het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Staatskapelle Berlin, the Boston Symphony and the New York Philharmonic.) and is a regular guest at major international festivals (Bayreuth). In 2011, he received the prestigious ECHO Klassik Award of the German Phono Academy in the category "Conductor of the Year".

Violinist Christian Tetzlaff performs at major international concert stages and festivals, and appears with the world’s most illustrious orchestras and conductors. His interpretations of the violin concerto repertoire, whether of the classical/romantic period or 20th century/contemporary era are appreciated the world over. He is particularly well‐renowned for his incomparable performances of the Bach Solo Sonatas and Partitas. Tetzlaff, playing as if his life depended on it, transports his audiences from the Hungarian gypsy camps to the salons of Vienna.
