Dialogues of the Carmelites: Canadian Opera Company

Sobre o Evento

Masterful director Robert Carsen returns to Toronto to deliver a deeply moving production of Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites. Poulenc's lush harmonies are empowered by beloved Canadian singers Isabel Bayrakdarian, Judith Forst and Adrianne Pieczonka in this psychological drama.

Francis Poulenc composed some of his most chilling music for this story of an order of Carmelite nuns entangled in the turmoil and terrors of war and revolution.

Robert Carsen’s triumphant COC productions of Orfeo ed Euridice and Iphigenia in Tauris enthralled audiences and critics alike. The Toronto Sun proclaimed that “Robert Carsen’s genius knows no bounds.” Here he returns to the Canadian Opera Company to direct a stellar cast of 150 singers and musicians, ably led by renowned Canadian stars Isabel Bayrakdarian, Judith Forst and Adrianne Pieczonka. This production is described by Variety as “subtle, yet gut‐wrenching.”

Performed in French with English surtitles.
