Enjoying a resurgence in popularity over the last few decades as a new crop of mezzo‐sopranos have risen to prominence, Rossini's enchanting comic opera demands astonishing virtuosity from its cast. Emma Dante's new production for Opera di Roma will be conducted by one of the most sought‐after conductors of his generation, Alejo Pérez, and brings together stars including Alessandro Corbelli, Marko Mimica, and Serena Malfi as the gentle Angelina.
