Bizet's comic opera at the Wiener Kammeroper.
Don Jose a naive soldier is seduced by the gypsy Carmen. Jose forgets about his childhood love and abandones his duty as a soldier to be with Carmen. She, however, turns her affections towards the glamorous toreador Escamillo. In his rage Jose kills Carmen.
After its world premiere the perception of the opera was critical. It was only in 20th century that became more successful.
