Leonard Bernstein’s onetime assistant, guest conductor Yutaka Sado, brings to light two 'artists of living' in this program of powerful characters.

First, Sado examines Bernstein’s Second Symphony with Canadian pianist Marc‐André Hamelin in the unusual role of the solo piano part in a symphony. Hamelin will then present one of his own works. The music of Shostakovich, an 'artist of living' at the other end of the world, constitutes the second part of the concert with his riveting Fifth Symphony.
