The Church of Saint Mary the Virgin is located in the heart of Times Square in Manhattan.
St. Mary's is an Episcopal Anglo‐Catholic church and because of the extensive use of incense it is fondly called 'Smokey Mary's'. Saint Mary's offers a wonderful program of professional choral and organ music and is regularly used as a venue for classical music concerts.
The cornerstone for the present church building was laid in 1894, offering a new site for the church's growing congregation. The building was designed in French Gothic style by the French architect Napoleon Le Brun.
