Um programa que resume as influências contrastantes do período pós‐Segunda Guerra Mundial: os Estados Unidos e a União Soviética. Duas visões de mundo e expressões distintas são vividamente capturadas na música de Shostakovich, particularmente em sua Quinta Sinfonia — uma resposta à desaprovação do regime de Stalin à sua Lady Macbeth do Distrito de Mtsensk — e nas obras de Bernstein e Barber, que navegaram suas identidades artísticas na América mccarthista. Sob a batuta do diretor musical Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, o programa abre com a Abertura Candide, de Bernstein, e apresenta Anne Akiko Meyers como solista no Concerto para Violino e Orquestra, Op. 14, de Barber.

Orquestra: Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi

Known colloquially as 'La Verdi', Milan's famed symphony orchestra was formed in the early 90s to supplement the city's already‐generous cultural offering. Making its home in Milan's Auditorio, La Verdi features among Europe's most respected and admired symphonic ensembles. Its first Musical Director, Ricardo Chailly, now holds the title of Conductor Laureate, while the Austrian conductor, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, a fast‐rising star in the orchestral firmament took over the role of Musical Director in 2024, following in the footsteps of several major names in the classical world. La Verdi welcomes a starry roster of soloists and guest conductors over the course of an extensive and varied annual season, and regularly features as guests of honour at important state occasions and international concert engagements.
