Each season the orchestra presents some 70 concerts in Belgium and abroad. It also organises educational projects and provides accompaniment for a number of music competitions, including the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition. The repertoire of the National Orchestra of Belgium is made up for the most part of the 'classical' music of the 19th and 20th centuries and of film music.The National Orchestra of Belgium has a special partnership with BOZAR MUSIC, which co‐produces its concerts at the Brussels Centre for Fine Arts (Palais des Beaux‐Arts), which serves as the orchestra's home base.

The National Orchestra of Belgium, which is subsidised by the federal government, employs 96 musicians and 12 other staff.
