Igreja Saint-Ephrem
Localizada em um recanto isolado do histórico quinto arrondissement de Paris, também conhecido como Quartier Latin, esta pequena e pitoresca igreja é verdadeiramente uma joia escondida. Construída em 1733 em verdadeiro estilo coríntio, a igreja foi utilizada por diferentes ordens religiosas até ao final do século XIX, quando se tornou um centro para os movimentos sociais católicos fundados por Robert e Albert de Mun. O interior é decorado de forma clássica com uma impressionante coleção de pinturas. A Igreja Saint-Ephrem é um local popular para concertos de música clássica, pois sua atmosfera aconchegante e intimista e sua excelente acústica atraem tanto moradores locais quanto turistas.
João Sebastião Bach
O nome Bach e a palavra músico eram sinônimos na Alemanha, já que o mundo conhecia 56 músicos dessa família. Mas foi Johann Sebastian Bach, um compositor genial e virtuoso organista, que deu prestígio ao nome da família. Ele nasceu em 31 de março de 1685 em Eisenach, uma pequena cidade na Turíngia. Aos 10 anos, ficou órfão e foi criado pelo irmão mais velho, Johann Christoph, que era organista em uma cidade vizinha. Foi seu irmão quem ensinou música ao jovem Johann Sebastian. Mais tarde, mudou-se para Luneburgo, onde frequentou uma escola paroquial e dominou as técnicas de violino, viola, piano e órgão aos 17 anos. Além disso, Bach era cantor de coro e, mais tarde, após a mudança de voz, tornou-se assistente de cantor. Em 1703, Bach foi contratado como músico da corte na capela do duque Johann Ernst III. Ele ganhou tanta reputação lá que mais tarde foi convidado para Arnstadt para ser organista na Igreja Nova, onde escreveu suas melhores obras para órgão. Em 1723, mudou-se para Leipzig para ser cantor na Igreja de São Tomás, onde permaneceu até sua morte por um derrame em 1750. No ano de sua morte, ele passou por uma cirurgia ocular malsucedida que o levou à perda da visão. Durante esse período difícil, sua segunda esposa, Anna Magdalena, o ajudou a escrever suas últimas peças musicais. O legado artístico de Bach é vasto. Ele criou composições em todos os gêneros da época: oratórias, cantatas, missas, motetos, música para órgão, piano e violino.

Lovely atmospheric venue with a good acoustic, but above all a superb performance from an extremely talented young cellist who performed the programme of three of Bach’s cello suites faultlessly from memory. I travel to Paris a couple times every year, and *ALWAYS* make sure I catch concerts at St.Ephrem. The concerts are always *perfect* and the music feeds the soul after a day of museums and touristing… Can't recommend these concerts highly enough.

The performance was breathtaking. Timothée was astounding, the acoustics and the candlelight inside the church made the music that much more enchanting‐ I could feel the cello from the top of my head to the tips of my toes. It was an electric experience.

薄暗くなった教会祭壇に蝋燭の灯りがともされ、演奏開始。チェロ独奏、自らの指は全くみることなく難解な曲を何曲も演奏で神々しかった。教会が宿泊先の近くでよかったです。
