Takács Quartet: Haydn, Shostakovich, Brahms

Over het evenement

Enjoy works for string quartet by Haydn, Shostakovich and Brahms at the Konzerthaus Berlin. In this program, the Takács Quartet contrasts a Russian composer with two very different representatives of the Viennese tradition.

Joseph Haydn was a successful composer in the midst of life when he wrote his six groundbreaking quartets op. 20. Dmitri Shostakovich was also a very avid quartet composer, at least by modern standards. The program is rounded off by the Quartet No. 2 by Johannes Brahms. He himself spoke of the process of creation as a difficult birth, for great predecessors such as Haydn were always present. Despite all the difficulties, this demanding work is now part of the core repertoire, to the delight of musicians and music lovers alike.
