Ronald Brautigam Plays Ravel at the Concertgebouw

Over het evenement

Revel in a soirée française, as acclaimed Dutch pianist Ronald Brautigam plays Ravel's Concerto in G and Le tombeau de Couperin. The Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and their principal violin, Gordan Nikolić, continue the theme with Milhaud, Lully, and Ravel's Tzigane.

The jazz influences that color the Concerto in G stem from Ravel's extended concert tour of the United States in the late '20s. Although jazz was already an established idiom in Paris, Ravel's blend of the Classical and the popular broke new ground. Each movement of Le tombeau, which emulates the structure of the French Baroque suite perfected by the titular composer, pays tribute to a friend of Ravel who died in battle during World War One.
