Jean Rondeau (harpsichord) at Capella de Santa Àgata

Over het evenement

Harpsichordist Jean Rondeau is one of the new phenomena in classical music. With an ‎appearance that is somewhat removed from classical norms, his strong musical personality ‎has led him, at the age of just 21, to become one of the youngest winners of the prestigious ‎International Harpsichord Competition in Bruges to sign with Erato‐Warner as an exclusive ‎recording artist with which he has already recorded three albums from the Bach dynasty and ‎Jean‐Philippe Rameau to found the jazz‐oriented Note Forget group and to compose music ‎for cinema. In his second visit to L’Auditori de Barcelona, Rondeau will present a repertoire ‎by François Couperin, one of the masters of harpsichord composition. Couperin was a court ‎musician at Versailles for the kings Louis XIV and XV, and wrote his pieces for harpsichord for ‎small aristocratic circles, away from royal pomp and ceremony. Grouped into four books of 27 ‎ordres or suites, Couperin’s compositions cover an enormous range of themes and moods ‎and were highly regarded by his contemporaries and future generations alike. Today we can ‎hear them played by Jean Rondeau, one of the best and most sensitive harpsichordists.‎
