Death and resurrection may not exactly be everyday concerns for all of us, but they preoccupied Gustav Mahler throughout his life.

His Second Symphony is one of a number of works that muse on life's B‐side. Mahler presents life's whirl in a medley of melancholy tragedy and heroic bravura, brought to us by Chief Conductor Jaap van Zweden.
