Volksoper Vienna: Gräfin Mariza
Over het evenement
'Countess Mariza' is one of the longest repertory operettas at the Volksoper Vienna!
The story is about the rich and beautiful Countess Mariza who invents a fictitious marriage engagement to discourage dowry‐hunters. Melancholy gypsy music alternates with fiery 'csárdás' rhythms. A wealth of well‐known melodies such as 'Come with me to Varasdin', 'Give the dear ladies my warmest regards', 'Where does love live?', or 'Come Zigán' soon made this operetta a worldwide hit.
'Countess Mariza', the Austrian operetta with Hungarian esprit which was Kálmán's second major work after 'Princess Csárdás', has been entrusted to the safe hands of the operetta specialist and director of the Budapest operetta theatre, Miklós‐Gábor Kerényi.
Performed for the first time in 1924 at the Theater an der Wien, 'Countess Mariza' moved to the Volksoper Vienna a year later and has now its four different productions here. This popular operetta has been on the Volksopera's programme no less than 280 times!
