Samson et Dalila: Oviedo Opera
Over het evenement
Nancy Fabiola Herrera and Stuart Skelton perform a classic of French opera, Camille Saint‐Saëns' Samson et Dalila.
Although its most famous aria — Mon coeur s'ouvre à ta voix — is well known by itself, the music of Samson et Dalila is full of the emotions and impressions Saint‐Saëns gathered during his travels around Asia and Africa. Music composition is not there to encourage mysticism, but to reconstruct a historical event where all immortal human feelings are present, along with the voluptuous heat and distant landscapes of the Eastern world.
Libretto by Ferdinand Lemaire, inspired on The Book of Judges from the Bible (chapters 14, 15 and 16).
