This program of varied temperaments, forms, and periods is proof in itself that the most 'classical' of our great pianists is not quite so classical as one might have thought.

Stravinsky's Dumbarton Oaks, inspired by the Brandenburg Concertos, is characterized by its verve and Neoclassical spirit; the 'Emperor' Concerto, by contrast, will close the program. Arguably the greatest concertante work of all time, it reveals Perahia's elegance and remarkable technical finesse.
