L'immédiat, Acrobatic Dance: Budapest Spring Festival

Over het evenement

At the Budapest Spring Festival, you will experience a guest performance by the Acrobatic Dance Compagnie L'immédiat.

You will have had at least one “this‐is‐not‐my‐day” day in your life, when things seem to have conspired against you, when your body refuses to obey you, when the ground seems to slip out from under your feet, when you are a butterfingers, when the wall tumbles down on you, when you are overwhelmed by drowsiness, when the world is shaking around you, when you see ghosts. Familiar? Camille Boitel, who was raised on a diet of new circus, so popular in France, represents this experience on the stage. She fabricates cunning devices, and towers up old, apparently useless pieces of furniture and other discarded items – gap‐toothed ladders, a scrapped wheelbarrow, cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, faded wardrobes and who knows what else –, among which doppelgängers or mirror images keep appearing unannounced, like so many mischievous apparitions. Your attention slips for a few seconds, or you make a small move, and gone is the delicate balance–or is this all a trick of the senses? Performed with spectacular ease (while anything but easy), the numbers of the seven‐strong troupe demonstrate how eating, drinking, dressing, writing a letter, or simply standing on the ground, is far from being simple and self‐evident. If you think the devil is in the details, you will not be disappointed: this slapstick marriage of physical theatre and contemporary circus will keep you alert for the details. Heartily recommended for children over the age of eight.

Camille Boitel exploded into the limelight at the 2002 Jeune Talents Cirque, which is the most important French forum for young talents of the circus, and has been touring her productions at festivals all over the world ever since.

A joint programme with the National Theatre.
