A music is considered 'light' when the composer favours melodic treatment over harmony, prefers easily memorable formulas to constantly renewed lines and cascades of chirping vocals with vigorous notes held. The lightness of this repertoire also depends on its subjects and the way in which they are dealt with: contrary to the tragic loves of the grand opera, it proposes intoxicating passions, games of seduction and clandestine relationships. The four singers gathered for this recital (soprano, mezzo‐soprano, tenor, baritone) show us the great variety of such loving interweaving, presenting scenes from works by Hervé, Offenbach, Lecocq, Varney, Audran, Serpette, Messager and many others.
