Homecomings
Over het evenement
Experience two choreographies in one evening: On an Overgrown Path and The Strangler set to music by Leoš Janáček and Bohuslav Martinů.
Looking back is like wandering along an overgrown path – memories have faded away, values and feelings about individual events have changed over time. Some less significant experiences have become clearer; the emotional power of others has died away. The choreography by Jiří Kylián enables these situations to be present in their significance without having to depict the life story of Leoš Janáček.
Bohuslav Martinů wrote The Strangler, the ballet for three dancers, in New York in 1948 as a tribute to the exceptional dancer Marta Graham. Verses written by Robert Fitzgerald inspired by Oedipus and The Sphinx complement the music and together they create a unique dance melodrama.
Bohuslav Martinů drew his inspiration from Leoš Janáček; Nataša Novotná was inspired by Jiří Kylián – two completely different generations, different views, but the same desires, the same dreams…
