Hans Heiling: Theater an der Wien
Over het evenement
Experience Marschner's opera about a young man's complicated psychological state between the longing for love, jealousy, anger and sadness.
In "Hans Heiling" Marschner had the chance for structural experiments, using conventional as well as completely new forms for sturcturing his opera. The premiere in Berlin in 1833 was a great success in which the role of Hans Heiling was played by Eduard Devrient, who also wrote the libretto to the opera.
Hans Heiling wants to escape from the possessional love of his mother and moves into a village in which he falls in love with Anna. While Anna's mother encourages her daughter to marry the rich stranger, Anna does not feel comfortable in the presence of this mysterious and possessive man.
After Heiling's mother reveals is true character to Anna, she breaks up the engagement. In his rage Heiling kills his rival for Anna's love, Konrad. After this deed his inner voices make him doubt and he almost looses his mind while he still hopes to marry Anna and starts fantasizing.
